My mother's been clearing out some of her fabric stash over the last few months and while much of the cotton fabric is going into patchwork quilts she and my cousin are busily cutting and sewing, I used a few pieces to make adorable fun skirts for my niece's two young daughters. The pattern, called The Market Skirt, was as simple as could be and came from an online tutorial I found on the Dana-made-it.com site.
The red skirt was made to the specs included in the tutorial but the blue skirt, below, was for the oldest girl and required re-sizing. It wasn't difficult and the pattern is very forgiving anyway. I haven't seen pictures of the girls in their skirts yet but am told they couldn't stop twirling around and were unwilling to take them off so it sounds like I need to go back to Mom's stash and pull out some pink and purple fabrics to make the girls skirts in their favorite colors.

Oh those are so sweet, Carolyn. Makes me sigh, because I always wished I had a little girl to sew for. These are adorable. I'll bet they love them. Pockets!! Who doesn't love pockets. You never know what treasures might lurk in there...
These are very cute. My daughter is grown up but I have a couple of little girls that I would like to make these for.

I really need to keep better track of what I did -- I thought when I was canning that I would remember how many pints/quarts I did of anything...but I can't. :(

Sadly DS has outgrown dinosaur appliques so, unless I sew for myself, stitching boxers from outre cotton prints is all I usually manage around here. So when you don't have a little girl to sew for go looking for one who needs something ruffled-y. It feels good to gather. ;)
And definitely pockets! Never leave out the pockets. That's the one thing I always envy about menswear.
I'm hoping to update that report this year, Cindy, because it was helpful to know what I started with and what I had left at the start of the next growing season. That's how I learned to make pickles every two years and other good lessons in pantry management. But, when I have to choose between doing and noting, noting loses every time. Well, almost. ;)
